HYDE PARK – A Friday morning fire involving three cars in the middle of a Hyde Park junkyard is under investigation by Dutchess County fire investigators. The fire was reported at 6:38 a.m. at Matt’s Used Auto Parts on Honeywell Lane. The Roosevelt Fire Department responded to the call.
Roosevelt Assistant Chief Ray Stretz arrived on the scene where heavy black smoke was billowing from the junkyard. Assistant Chief Stretz determined that three cars were on fire. While firefighters worked to extinguish the flames, employees of the salvage yard used heavy equipment to move other cars away from the burning vehicles.
Roosevelt Fire District Chief Jeff Scala told Mid-Hudson News that the cause of the fire had not been determined and the investigation was turned over to the Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division.
