Seneca County Chamber of Commerce needs $500,000 for Tyre HQ project

The Seneca County Chamber of Commerce faces financial hurdles in realizing its dream of converting a historic house into its new headquarters and a visitors center.

Chamber President Jeff Shipley tells the Finger Lakes Times that an additional $500,000 is required to kickstart the project at the site located at the intersection of routes 414 and 318 in Tyre.

Initially announced in 2019, the Chamber acquired the property, which includes the first brick house in the area built in 1821.

Despite obtaining a $150,000 state grant and $350,000 from selling a portion of the property to Dunkinโ€™ Donuts, the project has been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, unexpected historic preservation requirements, and surging construction costs.
