Ontario County Democrats triumph in Family Promise fundraiser

The Ontario County Democratic Committee (OCDC) recently showcased their competitive spirit and commitment to supporting families in need during the Amazing Bed Race, an annual fundraising event organized by Family Promise of Ontario County.

Held at the Ontario County Fairgrounds, the OCDC clinched three of the four awards, bagging trophies for Best Bed, Most Money Raised, and top honors in the โ€œSunday Driversโ€ division.

Their bed, named Lady Liberty, uniquely combined wheelchair and bicycle wheels, bed springs, and a foam mattress, and was adorned with patriotic colors and an American flag. This theme, emphasizing unity and support, was further enhanced by a costumed Lady Liberty reciting the iconic poem associated with the Statue of Liberty.

John Hurley, the chair of OCDC, expressed pride in the committeeโ€™s achievement, particularly their fundraising efforts which accumulated over $5,000 for Family Promise. The organizationโ€™s dedication to aiding homeless and low-income families resonated with the OCDCโ€™s mission. Kate Bluett, the case management director for Family Promise, commended OCDCโ€™s contribution, stating that the event raised a total of $20,000 this year, significantly bolstering the organizationโ€™s ability to assist families seeking housing.
