Albany area expected to get 2 inches or less but storm could drop heavier amounts in the Hilltowns, Catskill Mountains and Schoharie valley
ALBANY — Upstate residents should wake Saturday to a light cover of winter snow.
Meteorologists at the National Weather Service in Albany say snow will move in Friday night and could drop 1-2 inches of snow around Albany and more in the Hudson and Mohawk valleys.
The snow is expected to start at around sunset and continue into the morning.
The snow is part of a storm system that also is expected to drop snow in central New York.
Parts of Albany County’s Hilltowns, the Schoharie Valley, and the Catskill Mountains could see between 4-6 inches, a layer that should add to snow cover at area ski resorts.
While the weather service is tracking this story, they also are monitoring the potential impact of a coastal storm that is expected to hit in the middle of next week. That storm could bring snow and wind to the region but the potential magnitude of the storm is not yet clear.
