Kimberly Van Gundy, the wife of former NBA coach and current NBA broadcaster Stan Van Gundy, died suddenly on Aug. 16, according to several reports.
No cause of death was revealed. Kimberly was 61 and less than a week from her birthday.
According to her obit by Baldwin-Fairchild Oaklawn Chapel, she is survived by her four children, including Shannon, Michael, Alison, and Kelly. In addition, Kimberly was survived by mother, Jane Dennan (James), father, Ernest Abbott (Kate), brothers, Kevin (Debe) and Keith (Abigail) Abbott and Kristopher (Roseanne) Dennan, as well as sisters Elizabeth (Burton) McKenzie and Catherine (Michael-Ryan) McCarty. She also had 13 nieces and nephews.
Her obit also read, โKimberlyโs kindness and love for all around her was shown through her charitable works and activism.โ’
Kimberly and Stan Van Gundy met in 1984 at Castleton State College, where Stan was in his second season as the head menโs basketball coach. The couple got married four years later.
Kimberly, meanwhile, eventually earned her Masters degree at Fordham University.
Stan Van Gundy, who is the brother of former Knicks coach and ex-NBA color coordinator Jeff Van Gundy, was head coach with the Heat, Magic, Pistons and Pelicans.
