If skies are clear Saturday evening there’s a good chance to catch a rare glimpse of a planned rocket launch.
The Rocket Lab’s Electron rocket is scheduled to lift off March 11 from NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility on Wallops Island, Va. The two-hour launch window is scheduled to open at 6 p.m.
The 59-foot-tall rocket will take off from Launch Complex 2 at Virginia Space’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport. The mission, named “Stronger Together,” will be the second Rocket Lab launch from the facility. The first was in January. The mission is a dedicated launch for the satellite manufacturer Capella Space. Two synthetic aperture radar satellites will be placed into orbit if successful.
The launch may be visible to residents throughout much of the East Coast. The launch can also be viewed online through a livestream of the event that will start about 40 minutes before the launch window.
Rocket Lab, based in Long Beach, Calif., has had 33 launches and deployed more than 150 satellites for commercial, civil, defense and academic applications.
