Syracuse, N.Y. — A large section of Interstate 81 North in Syracuse is closed Thursday night due to a car crash.
The highway’s lanes were closed shortly after 10:24 p.m. from the I-481 interchange to the I-690 interchange, according to a state Department of Transportation alert.
Police were called to the highway after a caller to the Onondaga County 911 Center reported a pedestrian on the highway was hit by a vehicle.
Just before the crash, a caller reported seeing a man walking up a ramp to the highway near East Adams Street, according to 911 dispatches.
I-81 North traffic is being diverted to I-481, Syracuse police said.
