The Cornell University community is rallying together amid the disappearance of 22-year-old Yohanes Kidane, a recent alumnus originally from Webster, New York.ย
Kidane, who had recently relocated to San Jose after accepting a software engineering position at Netflix, was last seen in San Francisco on August 14. The university will host a candlelight vigil Thursday evening at a campus chapel, uniting students and faculty in hope and remembrance.
According to the San Jose Police Department, Kidane took a rideshare from San Jose to San Francisco the day he vanished. His personal items were later discovered near the Golden Gate Bridgeโs visitors center.ย

Although no evidence of a crime has been identified, multiple agencies, including the California Highway Patrol and U.S. Coast Guard, are collaborating in the search.ย
Meanwhile, J.W. Betts, a campus minister at Cornell, emphasized the importance of community support during such challenging times: โItโs important that students are weathering the storm together.โ Friends of Kidane have initiated a GoFundMe campaign to aid the ongoing search efforts.
