Buffalo Bills reportedly made offer for QB Trey Lance, former No. 3 overall pick

Buffalo Bills fans are hoping to see Brandon Beane swing some trades in the next few days for a middle linebacker or offensive tackle, but the general manager was reportedly in the mix for a quarterback.

According to Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury, East Bay Times, the Bills made a trade offer to the San Francisco 49ers for quarterback Trey Lance. Lance, the former No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, was traded to the Dallas Cowboys on Friday night for a fourth-round pick.

Entering the league, Lance drew comparisons to Buffaloโ€™s franchise QB Josh Allen for his big arm and mobility. Leading up to the 2021 NFL Draft, Josh Allen actually filmed a commercial in support of Lance telling him to ignore the doubters. Unfortunately for Lance, injuries and a lack of playing time have derailed his development in the league. Before being traded to the Cowboys, Lance was demoted to the teamโ€™s No. 3 quarterback behind Brock Purdy and Sam Darnold.

Lance would have given the Bills a project as their backup QB, but his ceiling and upside is far greater than that of current backups Kyle Allen and Matt Barkley.

Although the Bills missed out on acquiring Lance, itโ€™s clear that Brandon Beane is open to adding talent to the roster if the right player becomes available.
