Yankees waste Clarke Schmidt’s strong outing in shutout loss to Rays

The New York Yankees (62-67) managed just two hits and got shut out by the Tampa Bay Rays (79-52), 3-0, on Saturday night at Tropicana Field.

DJ LeMahieu had both of New York’s hits, both of which were singles. Aside from that, the Yankees had just two walks, and only one runner reached second base.

Clarke Schmidt allowed three runs (one earned) over 6 2/3 innings while striking out five.

The Yankees will try to win the series on Sunday at 1:40 p.m. with Carlos Rodón on the mound.
