Yankees release 3B Josh Donaldson

The New York Yankees announced Tuesday that they have released veteran third baseman Josh Donaldson from the roster.

Donaldson spent parts of two seasons in New York after being acquired alongside Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Ben Rortvedt in a trade with the Minnesota Twins in March 2022. Gary Sanchez and Gio Urshela were sent to the Twins in the deal.

The 37-year-old struggled in pinstripes, hitting just .207/.293/.385 with 25 home runs and 77 runs batted in over 165 games.

Donaldson has not played since the middle of July because of a right calf strain but is fully healthy now. However, with the Yankees bringing up their young prospects, there is no room for him.
