LIBERTY- Police have made two arrests in connection with a double stabbing in the Village of Liberty on Saturday evening that left two men injured.ย The stabbing initially took place in an apartment on South Main Street.
Jose Luis, 30, and Fernando Llano, 22, were arrested on Saturday evening, shortly after the stabbing incident by Village of Liberty Police.ย Police were initially called to the apartment at approximately 5:30 p.m. for a report of an altercation.ย Upon arrival officers found a 26-year-old man with several lacerations to his face and arms.ย Officers immediately began first aid in an attempt to aid the victim until emergency medical service personnel arrived on scene.ย The victim was transported via ambulance to Garnet Health Catskill where he was transferred to a Medivac helicopter and flown to Westchester Medical Center.ย
Officers were able to locate two individuals who were fleeing the scene a short distance away and take them into custody without incident.ย A short time later, officers were called to a residence on Chestnut Street where they located a second victim, a 33-year-old man, who had a laceration on his face.ย That victim was transported to Garnet Health Catskill where he was treated and released.
ย Luis has been charged with assault in the 1st degree and assault in the 2nd degree, both felonies, as well as menacing in the 2nd degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree, misdemeanors.ย Llano has been charged with felony assault in the 1st degree and misdemeanor criminal possession of a weapon.
Both men were arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of bail.ย The Village of Liberty Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the New York State Police, the Sullivan County District Attorneyโs Office, the Sullivan County Sheriffโs Office and the Village of Monticello Police Department.ย
