Counterfeit pill dealer busted by task force

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess County Drug Task Force has arrested a Beekman man on a felony drug charge after an investigation into the sale of counterfeit prescription Oxycodone pills, laced with fentanyl in parts of Dutchess County.

Dutchess County Drug Task Force (DCDTF) supervisor, Detective Sergeant Adam Harris said his unit arrested 26-year-old Johann Munoz and charged him with felony criminal sale of a controlled substance after an investigation into his suspected criminal activity in the towns of Poughkeepsie, Fishkill, and East Fishkill.

Munoz was apprehended in the parking lot of the Walmart on Route 9 in Fishkill on August 30 at 9:30 p.m. by members of the DCDTF assisted by uniformed members of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office.  Task force members seized what Harris quantified as “a large quantity of counterfeit Oxycodone pills containing deadly fentanyl.”

Munoz is scheduled to appear in the Town of Fishkill justice court on September 12 at 9:00 a.m. for arraignment.

“The Dutchess County Drug Task Force is operating in a fast and furious manner to hold drug dealers accountable in an attempt to keep fentanyl out of the hands of our vulnerable community members suffering from addiction,” Harris proclaimed.

The DCDTF is also asking anyone who has information about the activities of Munoz or anyone else suspected of illegal drug sales to call the task force’s confidential tip line at 845-463-6040 or email the information to [email protected].

The DCDTF consists of officers from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Hyde Park PD, Town of Fishkill PD, Town of East Fishkill PD, the City of Beacon PD, and the City of Poughkeepsie PD.
