Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor asks for prayers, good vibes

The season may be long over for the New York Mets when it comes to the standings, but there is still a lot to play for โ€” jobs for next season, new contracts and personal goals.

For star shortstop Francisco Lindor, he has numbers to chase: a 30 home run-30 stolen base season.

At 25-25, Lindorโ€™s aspiration is within reach with 25 games remaining. But he seeks some help.

โ€œI want it,โ€ Lindor said Friday, per MLB.com, before he hit his 25th HR. โ€œPray for me. Put good vibes for me out to the world.โ€

If Lindor, who went 38-25 in 2018 with Cleveland, accomplishes the feat, he will become the 44th member of the 30-30 club. The Mets have three members of this exclusive group: David Wright, Howard Johnson (who did it three times) and Darryl Strawberry.

According to MLB.com: The feat is roughly four times rarer than hitting 40 homers, more than seven times rarer than a no-hitter, roughly eight times rarer than hitting for a cycle.

Lindor has played in 135 of 137 games this season โ€“ an accomplishment on its own โ€“ and boasts a .249/.330/.460 line along with 89 runs, 81 RBI, and a 117 OPS+.

He has been by far the most productive Mets player, with a 5.2 WAR (Baseball Reference), which ranks 10th in the majors.

But his season is far from done.

โ€œDo I want it? Yes, I want it,โ€ Lindor said. โ€œIt would be cool. It would be special. So put good vibes out to the world for me. Please.โ€
