It didn’t take long for the New York Giants to alter the multi-million dollar extension awarded to quarterback Daniel Jones this offseason.
New York and the quarterback agreed on a contract restructure converting $8.42 million of his base salary into a signing bonus and creating $6.315 million in cap space as first reported by Field Yates. The move is expected to give the Giants some extra wiggle room to try and improve the team throughout the 2023 regular season.
For Jones, it concludes what has been a whirlwind of an offseason. The quarterback signed a four-year, $160 million with Big Blue following a career year in which he set career highs in efficiency passing and rushing. He also led New York to their first playoff win in over a decade over Minnesota.
Now entering the second year under Brian Daboll, Jones is seen as the unquestioned franchise quarterback whom the Giants’ have tried to surround with even more firepower. Newly acquired receivers like Darren Waller and Parris Campbell add plenty of experience while third-round rookie Jalin Hyatt has the potential to make an impact early. All of this was done because Big Blue believes in their quarterback.
Now, the quarterback is giving back to his team to ensure they can stay aggressive and keep pace with the rest of the NFC when the season kicks off this week.
