Mets lose series opener to Twins

The New York Mets (64-76) offense had trouble generating offense in a 5-2 loss to the Minnesota Twins (74-67) on Friday night at Target Field.

New York managed just four hits, and Francisco Lindor drove in both runs in the fourth inning with a ground-rule double that scored Francisco Alvarez and Pete Alonso. The team went 1-for-3 with runners in scoring position, leaving four on base.

Kodai Senga turned in another strong outing, surrendering two runs on four hits over six innings while walking four and striking out five.

Sean Reid-Foley gave up three runs in relief of Senga before Grant Hartwig and Sam Coonrod recorded scoreless outings.

The Mets will try to seven the series on Saturday at 2:10 p.m. with David Peterson on the hill.
