Sullivan County resumes five-day senior bus service (VIDEO)

MONTICELLO – It has been several years since the Sullivan County Office for the Aging provided free five-day bus transportation. It has been operating on a two-day per week schedule since the COVID-19 pandemic.

But now, Director Lisa-Ann Deoul said they are grateful to resume the full schedule.

“We have had so many false starts and every time we had a conversation there would be another COVID outbreak, another hiccup with staffing,” she said.

Bus driver Barbara Pirog enjoys driving for the seniors as they become friends. “We talk about going shopping, what they are going to buy, what they are going to cook. It’s wonderful,” she said.

County Legislature Chairman Rob Doherty said the local lawmakers “care deeply about the people of Sullivan, especially our seniors.”

He said the county also plans on expanding its Move Sullivan public transportation system to more towns and villages.
