Maddie Erskine scored five goals and had two assists, Jane Trauger added three goals and two assists and Ava Vasile also scored a hat trick as Vermont recovered from an early stumble to overwhelm Siena 20-6 at Virtue Field in Burlington, Vermont on Sunday afternoon.
The Saints struck first as Grace Dobrzynski slotted home an unassisted effort with 12:13 left in the first quarter after Sabrina Krasner made a key save against Vermont’s Kristiana Strtak.
After Erskine scored on a free position attempt with 11:19 to go, Siena’s Hannah Field earned the next draw control to give the ball back to the Saints. Mary Soures then gave the Saints their second and final lead of the game when she found the back of the net with 10:01 remaining in the first quarter for a 2-1 lead.
Vasile then scored the next two to put the Catamounts in front 3-2, followed by goals from Meghan O’Connor and Erskine’s second of the day as Vermont ended the first quarter with a 5-2 lead.
After falling behind 8-3 in the second quarter, the Saints battled back on goals by Soures and Jordan Bentley to get within 8-5 at halftime. However, the Catamounts outscored the Saints 8-0 in the third quarter and the rout was on.
Soures led the Saints with three goals, while Dobrzynski finished with a goal and an assist.
Krasner finished with nine saves in the loss.
The Saints next travel to West Point on Wednesday for an evening showdown with No. 14 Army at 6 p.m. The game will air on ESPN+.
