Rain expected to pass through NYC Monday, say forecasters

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Showers forecast to roll into New York City late Sunday night are expected to persist into the start of the work week and deliver a gloomy Monday, the National Weather Service said.

The agency’s New York office said one model suggests rain will begin to move over Staten Island late Sunday night — around 9 p.m. — before spotty bouts of precipitation continue in the overnight hours.

Then, more consistent rainfall will begin prior to the morning rush hour, according to the model. By around 6 a.m., heavier showers could begin to make a presence, the forecast said.

Showers are slated to linger throughout the morning into the early afternoon Monday, the National Weather Service said. Skies should clear up later in the afternoon, the forecast model suggests.

By Monday night, around a half-inch of rainfall is expected to accumulate, the agency said on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter.
