The Western New York Walk for Apraxia will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday in Attica, and includes a ceremony beginning at 10 a.m.
Childhood apraxia of speech is a rare motor speech disorder that makes it difficult for an individual to speak. There is no cure, but raising awareness can help children to be diagnosed faster for early intervention.
“Children with CAS often spend their extra time attending therapies several times a week, missing out on social opportunities and the positive recognition that comes with them. The walk is their chance to be recognized and celebrated for all their efforts and gains from the year,” said April Black, manager for the walk and the parent of a child with apraxia.
The free event is in Attica Memorial Park, 145 Exchange St.; funds raised benefit Apraxia Kids, a nonprofit that works to strengthen the support systems in the lives of children with childhood apraxia. Learn more at apraxia-kids.org/walk-for-apraxia-splash-page.
