TOWN OF WALLKILL – State Police have identified the driver of the charter bus that crashed on Interstate 84 in Slate Hill last Thursday killing two women as a 59-year-old Centereach woman.
Linda Schaffer was behind the wheel when a tire blew and the coach bus when careening 50 feet down an embankment.
Forty high school students from Farmingdale were on the bus in route to a band camp in Pennsylvania.
Police also said the five students who were listed in critical condition are all recovering and downgraded to less critical care.
The two women killed in the crash were previously identified as Beatrice Ferrari, 77, of Farmingdale, and Gina Pellettiere, 43, of Massapequa.
Troopers are also asking the public to check if they have any dash cam videos that may have recorded the incident.
