STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — An individual allegedly assaulted a bank worker after his transaction was denied in Stapleton on Tuesday afternoon.
Police are investigating whether the individual fled in a stolen car, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.
The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday at 577 Bay St., according to a spokesman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.
Citibank is located at the address supplied by police.
The victim is a 52-year-old woman, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.
An individual entered the bank to cash a check but allegedly became irate after he was told that he could not deposit more than $5,000 at one time, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.
The individual allegedly struck the victim in her left hand, causing pain and redness, according to the police spokesman.
Police described the individual sought for questioning as a male standing about 5′5″ tall and weighing about 180 pounds who fled in a vehicle, possibly a blue BMW that previously was reported stolen on Sept. 25.
A police spokesman on Wednesday was unable to provide any information about the alleged theft of the vehicle.
Emergency radio communications indicated that the car was tracked crossing the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge on Tuesday. Police were searching for the car on the Staten Island Expressway, the West Shore Expressway and near all of the bridges on our borough in the afternoon.
No arrests have been made and the incident remains under investigation, according to the police spokesman.
