Yankees close out season with loss to Royals

The New York Yankees closed out the 2023 season with a 5-2 loss to the Kansas City Royals on Sunday afternoon at Kauffman Stadium, finishing 82-80.

Michael King allowed four runs over four innings of work, and the offense could not erase the four-run deficit.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa provided the only offense, lining a two-out, two-run single in the sixth inning. Austin Wells had three of the teamโ€™s seven hits.

Jhony Brito surrendered a run over three innings, while Greg Weissert recorded three outs.

The Yankees will head into what should be a very busy offseason after missing the playoffs for the first time since 2016 and finishing with their worst record since 1992.
