The Romulus Central School District unveiled the “Royals” as its new nickname, along with a fresh logo, at a Friday pep rally, losing the previous Native American-related moniker “Warriors.”
The move follows a state-mandated renaming process for all schools with such nicknames.
School officials said the renaming process involved forming a committee, comprising students, staff, community members, and alumni, and soliciting ideas from the community.
The community’s suggestions, numbering over 75, were refined to three potential new nicknames: Wolves, Ravens, and Royals.

The final choice was made through a vote by the students in September, with the winning nickname, the Royals, incorporating an emblem representing the white deer synonymous with the local area and the former Seneca Army Depot.
Waterloo and Canandaigua have also completed this process.
