MID-HUDSON – First Lady Dr. Jill Biden will be in the Hudson Valley on Friday, October 6 for a tour and gathering. The tentative plans were announced on Tuesday.
Biden and county officials will join with Dutchess Community College leadership for the opening of the 6,000-square-foot Dutchess Community College Mechatronics Lab in Fishkill. The lab is located on the north end of the former Dutchess Mall facility on Route 9 near I-84.
Fishkill Town Councilman Brian Wrye, who took office in 2022, proposed the need for a liaison between the town and DCC. “After being elected to the town board, I said that I wanted to create a Liaison to DCC Fishkill because it’s an obvious asset to our community and we should be engaged. Now, with the first lady’s visit, I guess I was right,” he told Mid-Hudson News.
Biden will then follow in the footsteps of Governor Kathy Hochul when she travels to Poughkeepsie to speak about the Day One Early Learning Center. Hochul, as the state’s lieutenant governor joined with US Senator Gillibrand, state and local officials in July 2020 to discuss Day One and stump for a bill co-sponsored by Gillibrand, known as the “Child Care is Essential” act to address the lack of daycare for children in the Hudson Valley. The $50 million bill has not been approved.
A full itinerary for First Lady Biden has not been released for security purposes.
