NASCAR on Wednesday afternoon released the 2024 schedule for the Cup Series. Watkins Glen International’s date will be moving from the end of August to the middle of September allowing it to host its first ever NASCAR Playoff event.
NASCAR announced that the Watkins Glen date, on Sunday September 15, 2024, will be a part of the Round of 16 for the Cup Series. Watkins Glen International joins Atlanta Motor Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway in that round. The opening round of the playoffs will see 16 drivers compete for 12 spots in the next round of the playoffs.
Once again, NASCAR’s second tier division will join the premier division at The Glen. The Xfinity Series will slot into the Saturday September 14, 2024, date. Unlike the Cup Series date, the Xfinity Series race will not be in the playoffs for the series. At this time, the ARCA Menards Series event at the track, usually ran on the Friday evening of the weekend, hasn’t announced a return to the schedule.
