The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball announced its 2023 Postseason All-Star Team on Wednesday — and for the first time, a FerryHawks player is on it.
Staten Island’s Angel Aguilar became the first player in the club’s two-year history to be named an All-Star. The 28-year-old shortstop hit .324 with 23 home runs and 74 RBI in 103 games this season.
The team is voted on by the league’s managers and coaches.
“Angel is on-pace to be an all-time great FerryHawk. His consistency at the plate, improved defense…for him to get this recognition, we’re all super proud as an organization,” said FerryHawks team president and part-owner Eric Shuffler.
Aguilar’s professional career began as a New York Yankees farmhand. The Venezuela native spent eight years with the organization, reaching levels as high as Double-AA in 2019.
He signed with Staten Island prior to the club’s inaugural season in 2022.
“He’s the anchor of the squad. He’s a proven veteran and an inspiration to the other players,” said Shuffler. “He is a rock in the batting order. It’s really great to see his talent and leadership recognized.”
“We hope to see some Major League teams take notice of the numbers he’s producing at a very high level here,” he added.
