An Upstate New York man with “America’s Best Mullet” is defending his title — and calling out one of the biggest stars in country music for ditching the look.
Scott Salvadore, who won a competition for the “best mullet” in the U.S. last year, is hoping to keep his crown in the 2023 USA Mullet Championship. He’s automatically in this year’s Top 25 “Mane Event” as the reigning champ, but will need fans to vote for him again starting Oct. 9 at mulletchamp.com.
“I hate losing,” a determined Salvadore told syracuse.com | The Post-Standard. “My wife says Miss America never won twice in a row… I’m like, well, Miss America never looked as good as this.”

Celebrities with the iconic “hockey haircuts” have included David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust, Mel Gibson, Patrick Swayze, Joan Jett, Billy Ray Cyrus, Wayne Gretzky, Danny McBride’s Kenny Powers (”Eastbound & Down”) and, more recently, people like Morgan Wallen, Lil Nas X and Ella Emhoff, the daughter of Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff.
But Wallen shaved off his famous mullet earlier this year, saying he “didn’t like my long hair anymore.” Salvadore says he was a fan of the country star, but no more.

Salvadore already had his own mullet in 2018 when he first heard about Wallen and other people…
