Heavy morning rain and a poor forecast for later Friday forced DIRT officials to cancel their scheduled racing without a wheel being turned at the Oswego Speedway Friday.
“In all the years we’ve been at Oswego, I can’t ever remember being put in a box like this with the weather,” said DIRT event director Jeff Hachmann. “We’re still determined to get this show in on Saturday, as the forecast has the best window of opportunity for racing on Saturday afternoon and early evening,” continued Hachmann.
If the rain continues, Sunday or Columbus Day Monday could be used for a rain date.
The National Weather Service forecast issued Saturday morning for Oswego calls for a good deal of rain:
Saturday: Overall, the chance of precipitation is 90%. Between 1 and 7 p.m. the chance of rain drops to 50%
Sunday: Overall, the chance of precipitation is 80%. The chance of rain drops to about 70% between noon and 3 p.m.
Tonight
A chance of showers, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 9pm. Low around 50. West wind 13 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
All four of Sunday’s feature races have now been moved to Saturday and the pro stock main event has been reduced from 50 laps to 25. The DIRT sportsman final is now 50-laps instead of 75.
All Sunday-only tickets are now good on Saturday. Friday tickets can also be used Saturday.
Last chance showdown races for big-blocks, sportsman and 358 modifieds will also be run Saturday before the four main events.
