NYC Democratic Socialists plan rally in support of Palestinian cause

MID-HUDSON- Plans by the New York City Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) to hold a Times Square rally on Sunday in support of the Palestinian cause is drawing a harsh reaction from leaders throughout the region.ย  The DSAโ€™s rally comes only one day after terrorists launched the deadliest domestic attack on Israel since the countryโ€™s founding.

The New York City DSA is not the first group to speak out in support of Palestinians in recent months.ย  In March Mid-Hudson News reported on a rally held in front of the Brooklyn home of U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer by The Jewish Voice for Peace, a not-for-profit organization that, according to its website, is the largest progressive Jewish anti-Zionist organization in the world.ย  Protesters were calling on Schumer to end military aid to Israel.ย  Several New York State lawmakers also joined the protesters calls for Schumer to withdraw support for Israel.

Governor Kathy Hochul took to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, on Saturday evening to condemn the planned rally.

โ€œThe people of Israel are facing violent terrorist attacks and civilian kidnappings.ย  I condemn plans to rally in Times Square tomorrow in support of the perpetrators of these horrific actions.ย  The planned rally is abhorrent and morally repugnant,โ€ wrote Hochul.

Congressman Mike Lawler (R, NY-17) responded to news of the rally, stating, โ€œIt is absolutely disgusting that the NYC DSA is holding a rally celebrating the murderous rampage of Hamas terrorists through Israel.ย  They went door to door indiscriminately butchering men, women, and children โ€“ and these fringe lunatics stand in solidarity with these murderers.โ€ย  Lawler went on write, โ€œAny elected official who has the support of NYC-DSA and doesnโ€™t denounce this in clear unequivocal terms should be thrown out of office.ย  Itโ€™s an absolute disgrace.โ€
