New York Red Bulls defender John Tolkin is one of 23 players named to the United States Men’s Olympic National Team camp, US Soccer announced on Sunday.
The emergence of the 21-year-old talent continues — and he continues to be recognized by his country. This is the third time this season that Tolkin has been selected to the national team — the first two with the senior team that competed at the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Tolkin will be at camp with the Olympic Team in Phoenix, AZ from Oct. 8-17. The men’s soccer tournament at the 2024 Summer Olympics in France begins on July 24 with the US qualifying for the first time since 2008.
The Chatham, NJ native has continued to rise amongst the American soccer ranks, which certainly bodes well for his future playing domestic soccer internationally. In his fourth season with the Red Bulls, Tolkin has already made 84 MLS appearances while recording four goals and 11 assists.
In 25 league matches this season, he’s posted two goals with six assists. His eight helpers in all competitions this season is a new franchise record for most assists by a defender. It helped him earn MLS All-Star Game honors, becoming just the second New York homegrown player to be selected.
