BETHEL- Rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the thousands of foodies who converged on Bethel Woods on Saturday for the first day of “The Big Sip,” one of the region’s largest food, spirits, and cultural festivals. Attendees enjoyed live music and shopping and had the opportunity to sample local craft, artisan, and specialty foods.
“All the food here is excellent, I can’t pick a favorite. When it comes to the drinks, I like the cider from Seminary Hill,” said one attendee. Vendors provided food samples, as well as tastings of hundreds of bourbons and whiskeys, tequilas and mezcals, and wines.
Saturday’s entertainment included Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness. Sunday will feature a Back to the Eighties show with Jessie’s Girl.
Roberta Byron-Lockwood, President & CEO of the Sullivan Catskills Visitor’s Association, spoke at the event kickoff. Byron-Lockwood said the event is important to the region because it offers local restaurants and distilleries the opportunity to participate in a large food and spirits event so close to home. She also said the event is the perfect lead-up to Hudson Valley and Catskills Restaurant week.
“Restaurant week will be running from October 30th through November 12th,” said Byron-Lockwood. “We have a whole list of the restaurants that will be participating. This is a wonderful way to explore our great restaurants, and enjoy the Catskill-icious cuisine that we have in our backyard.”
The second day of the two-day event will kick off on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Tickets for “The Big Sip” can be purchased online.
