As the nation observes Manufacturing Month, Governor Kathy Hochul revealed New York’s exceptional growth in the manufacturing sector, marking the creation of over 13,300 new jobs since 2021.
This makes New York the leading state in the U.S. in terms of manufacturing jobs reshored from abroad.
Governor Hochul’s push to revitalizing the sector can be seen through efforts like the historic $100 billion investment from Micron, which is set to create 50,000 jobs in Central New York, representing the largest manufacturing venture in the state’s history.
Furthermore, New York’s manufacturing industry has showcased its pivotal role in the state’s economic landscape, with contributions exceeding $83 billion to the state’s gross domestic product in 2022 alone.
A significant contributor to this growth is the state’s prominent semiconductor manufacturing industry, boasting over 10,300 jobs, $2 billion in exports, and 72 semiconductor facilities.
Governor Hochul has actively fostered the sector’s development, taking groundbreaking steps such as the Green CHIPS legislation aimed at boosting sustainable semiconductor manufacturing, which aims to draw leading chip manufacturers, secure a minimum of $3 billion in investments, and generate a minimum of 500 new jobs for each project.
