An investigation by the Erie County District Attorney’s Office found “no evidence of criminal conduct” by Cheektowaga Town Board member Brian Nowak, who was publicly accused last month of bribing another town elected official.
The finding was relayed Tuesday morning by District Attorney John Flynn in an email to Cheektowaga Councilman Brian Pilarski.
Pilarski brought the district attorney’s finding to the attention of the Town Board on Tuesday evening during its bimonthly meeting, when the board was considering a resolution to launch a formal investigation into claims that Nowak bribed the town’s highway superintendent.
According to the investigation resolution, Nowak last year offered to help Cheektowaga Highway Superintendent Mark Wegner get re-elected for another four-year term if he supported Nowak’s resolution to get rid of the deputy highway superintendent position.
