$50K in awards will help Staten Island groups address community health

STATEN ISLAND, NY — Staten Island PPS, Performance Provider System, has awarded $10,000 to each of five nonprofit organizations to support capacity building and enhanced service provision in addressing critical social determinants of health for Staten Islanders.

Staten Island PPS has partnered with Nonprofit Staten Island (NPSI) to identify five local nonprofit organizations addressing key community needs and award the money supporting their work.

This partnership has engaged organizations historically disconnected from healthcare systems and networks.

โ€œBuilding capacity among community-based not-for-profit organizations is critical to addressing health equity issues. The SI PPS and SINFP collaboration generated widespread enthusiasm among our Staten Island-based CBOs,โ€ said Joseph Conte, Ph.D., the Executive Director of the PPS.

โ€œWe are proud to be able to award five grants and, simultaneously, disappointed we cannot support all the amazing applications that were received. said Conte.

The connectivity initiated through this opportunity better positions providers with valuable expertise and approaches to more effectively address social determinants of health, which have been well-documented as pivotal in shaping community health outcomes.

The partnered duo aims to tackle the root causes of health disparities and promote holistic approaches to healthcare.

The winners will significantly support the PPS and Northwell Healthโ€™s ongoing effort to address disparities in the community. The awards have been granted to:

A Chance in Life is an organization โ€œempowering at-risk young people worldwide with education and leadership development,โ€ as their website says. With a 77-year legacy, this organization provides new education and leadership initiatives for at-risk youth.
