CANTON โ€“ The composting program in Canton has been restarted.

Village Trustee Klaus Proemm reported there are now two 96-gallon sealed totes at the village drop off site adjacent to Bend in the River Park. The sealed totes replace the dumpster that was previously utilized.

โ€œSigns at the site provide a QR code that residents can quickly scan with their phones; the code links to a form that asks for the resident’s name, email, and whether they are a resident of the Town or Village of Canton,โ€ noted Proemm. โ€œWhen the resident submits the form, they are provided with the combination for the tote.โ€

If people prefer, just send an email [[emailย protected].] stating youโ€™re a resident of the Village or the Town, Proemm explained

โ€œIf neither, thatโ€™s okay too. Once we get your response, we will send you the code,โ€ he said.

Totes will be emptied weekly and the contents weighed by North Country Compost.

โ€œIf you are unable to compost your food scraps at your home, please consider using the free drop off site provided by the Village. All food scraps collected will be converted to compost by North Country Compost at a site six miles south of Canton. In about six months NCC intends to have a free distribution of 7 cubic yards of compost for all Village and Town residents,โ€ stated Proemm.

Questions, comments or suggestions to improve the site are welcome by reaching out to NCC at 802-750-1550 or email them at [emailย protected].
