A man riding an e-bike through Queens was killed after he was doored by a Mercedes Benz, then run over by a Jeep, cops said Saturday.

The 20-year-old victim was zipping south along 164th St. near Chapin Parkway in Jamaica Hills about 6 p.m. Friday when a motorist who just parked his Mercedes Benz opened the drivers-side door.

The victim struck the door and was flung from his bike — landing directly in the path of the oncoming Jeep Cherokee, cops said.

First responders found the victim sprawled out on the ground suffering from multiple injuries. He was rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where he died.

His name was not immediately released.

Both motorists remained at the scene. No charges were immediately filed.

A good Samaritan was knifed in the neck as he assisted a wheelchair-bound man into a Bronx building, police and witnesses said Saturday.

The 24-year-old victim was helping his neighbor enter the W. 162nd St. building near Ogden Ave. — about three blocks from Yankee Stadium — about 6:50 p.m. Friday when two men wearing baseball caps approached.

“He got into an altercation with the two individuals,” the wheelchair-bound resident, who didn’t want to be named, told The Daily News. “Then all hell broke loose. They started beating him. They stabbed him in the neck.

“I still have his blood on me,” he said.

One of the attackers had a knife, the witness said. The other was armed with a revolver, but didn’t fire.

The victim managed to move the handicapped witness out of the way before he was wounded.

“He put me to the side,” he said. “They cut him deep. He’s a good kid. He was trying to help me out.”

EMS rushed the victim to Lincoln Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition and is expected to survive.

His two attackers ran off. One of the assailants was wearing a Chicago Bulls cap. The other was wearing a Carolina Panthers hat, the witness recalled.

No arrests have been made. A motive for the attack was not immediately disclosed.

“His mom is in Florida, coming back tomorrow,” he said about the victim. “She doesn’t even know yet.”

A man was gunned down in the Bronx Friday afternoon just a half-block away from the Bronx Hall of Justice.

Denzel Plummer, 28, was shot in the chest by an unknown assailant as he stood outside a liquor store across the street from his home in Concourse Village, cops and family said.

Around 3:50 p.m., two men pulled up in a black SUV outside the LLQ Wine & Liquor store on E. 161st St.

One of the men got out, pulled a gun, and shot Plummer, said police.

The men then tore away down Morris Ave. in their car, and medics rushed the wounded Plummer to Lincoln Hospital where he died, cops said.

Police secure the scene in front of 281 E. 161 St. in the Bronx where a Denzel Plummer was shot on Friday.

Hours later, his grieving mother stood nearby as people put together a memorial for her son.

”He was a good man and a very good father,” said Luvenia Staples, 57. “He was loved by everyone on the block.”

Plummer had a job as a stock worker at Macy’s on W. 34th St. in Midtown, and had celebrated his 28th birthday on July 1st, his mom added.

Plummer’s son is just old enough to comprehend that his father is gone. “He’s old enough to understand. He cried and cried,” Staples said.

”I’m trying to hold it together. I’m trying not to break down.”

Plummer’s aunt, who did not want to share her name, pointed to an NYPD watchtower on the corner and said that more could have been done to prevent the violence.

”There’s a police post on the corner, and two courts over there. Where were they? What were they doing?,” she asked.

”If this was a Yankees game, there would have been plenty of police. They would have shut all this down.”

New York City road rage suspect Andrew Mosby said he feared for his life when he mowed down a truck driver who’d just slashed his tires with a knife, according to a police source familiar with the interview.

At arraignment Friday in Manhattan Criminal Court, Mosby, 26, was ordered held on $50,000 bail on a manslaughter charge.

Mosby was charged in the death around 4 p.m. Wednesday of Roberto Velez Alvarez, 54, on E. 60th St. near Park Ave. on the Upper East Side.

The violent confrontation between Mosby and Velez Alvarez began on E. 60th St., when Velez Alvarez, who was driving a gray truck, allegedly would not let Mosby merge into traffic as he drove along with his wife and three children as passengers.

A screengrab from surveillance video shows Andrew Mosby's car smashing through the glass of a cafe.

During the fracas, Velez Alvarez allegedly drove his truck into one of the side view mirrors on Mosby’s car.

As the men feuded, Velez allegedly pulled a knife and slashed the tires of Mosby’s Volkswagen.

So Mosby hit the gas. Video of the incident shows Mosby’s car slamming Velez Alvarez into the plate glass video of a cafe.

EMS workers rushed Velez Alvarez to a hospital, but he could not be saved.

Mosby stayed at the scene and was taken into custody.

Mosby was driving with a suspended license, said Manhattan Assistant DA Shilpa Kalra, who argued that he is a flight risk and should be held on bail.

Mosby’s defense lawyer, public defender Scott Gallagher, countered that the suspect’s “thoughts are fully invested in the seriousness of this case and he is going to be at every single one of his court dates.”

Mosby had not made bail as of late Friday night.

Brooklyn Shomrim leader Jacob Daskal guilty in child sex case https://newyorkinquisitor.com/news/brooklyn-shomrim-leader-jacob-daskal-guilty-in-child-sex-case/ https://newyorkinquisitor.com/news/brooklyn-shomrim-leader-jacob-daskal-guilty-in-child-sex-case/#respond Fri, 14 Jul 2023 22:34:43 +0000 https://newyorkinquisitor.com/news/brooklyn-shomrim-leader-jacob-daskal-guilty-in-child-sex-case/

The former head of an Orthodox Jewish neighborhood watch group pleaded guilty on Friday to charges that he forced a troubled 15-year-old girl to have sex.

Brooklyn Shomrim leader Jacob Daskal, 64, avoided trial in Brooklyn Federal Court on allegations he groomed the underage girl and transported from Brooklyn across the state line to New Jersey and then upstate, where he assaulted her at his vacation home and at a campground.

As part of his guilty plea, Daskal agreed to a sentence within the range of 14 to 17 years in jail. He is also required to register as a sex offender. The exact details of his sentence will be determined at a future hearing.

“The defendant has admitted he abused his power, trust and position in the community by committing deplorable acts against a child in his care,” stated Brooklyn U.S. Attorney Breon Peace.

Daskal broke down in tears as he admitted his guilt.

“I transported the 15-year-old victim from New York, Brooklyn to New Jersey,” he said. “I was 58 years old at that time.”

Daskal, however, did not make any detailed statements in court about his illegal conduct with the victim.

According to prosecutors, Daskal used his status as the anti-crime patrol’s chief to scare his victim into keeping quiet,

“It’s just going to ruin your life if you tell people,” he warned the teen, according to the feds.

Jacob Daskal, center, arrives at State Supreme Court in Brooklyn in May 2018, where he was charged with third degree rape and other counts.

The alleged abuse started in 2017, after the teen, who was a member of the Orthodox Jewish community in Borough Park, started having problems with her family and asked a local mentor for help that spring, according to filings by federal prosecutors.

That mentor contacted the Borough Park Shomrim Society, which in turn linked the girl up with Daskal.

The Shormim, an influential volunteer group with ties to the NYPD, works as a nonprofit auxiliary police of sorts in Brooklyn’s Orthodox Jewish neighborhoods. It has about 130 members, a 24-7 dispatch service and vehicles that have markings resembling police cars.

A young woman accused of selling the fentanyl-laced fake oxycodone pills that killed Robert De Niro’s teenage grandson warned an undercover cop not to take “more than one at a time” before her arrest because, she said, her friend had “just died,” authorities revealed after she appeared in court Friday.

Wearing a black t-shirt and white sneakers with the laces taken out, Sofia Haley Marks, 20, of Manhattan, was held without bail at Manhattan federal court a day after her arrest on charges alleging she dispensed the pills that caused Leandro De Niro Rodriguez’s overdose death.

The petite Marks combed her hair with her fingers as U.S. Magistrate Judge Ona T. Wang read aloud the charges. She faces one count of distributing and possessing with intent to distribute fentanyl and alprazolam and two counts of distributing and possessing with intent to distribute fentanyl, each carrying 20 years of prison time.

The 19-year-old De Niro Rodriguez, an actor like his grandfather and mother, Drena De Niro, was discovered dead inside a Financial District apartment on July 2, where authorities found cocaine and prescription pills. He’d appeared in three films in his short career, including 2018′s “A Star Is Born” led by Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.

Marks was arrested Thursday after selling fentanyl-laced pills to an undercover cop, in possession of 156 counterfeit oxycodone pills and approximately $1,500 in cash, according to the complaint. She sold the undercover 50 pills between July 9 and the night of her arrest.

of Xanax recovered from the scene of the Victim's death.

“[P]lease be careful with these,” Marks told the cop, according to the complaint. “[D]on’t do more than one at a time … my friend just died.”

According to court papers, authorities believe Marks was referring to another 19-year-old who died on June 14. She told the undercover she was present for his overdose and that they had snorted pills together off her phone before falling asleep. When she woke up, the young man was non-responsive.

Reputed NYC mob boss pleads guilty in Queens union shakedown https://newyorkinquisitor.com/news/reputed-nyc-mob-boss-pleads-guilty-in-queens-union-shakedown/ https://newyorkinquisitor.com/news/reputed-nyc-mob-boss-pleads-guilty-in-queens-union-shakedown/#respond Fri, 14 Jul 2023 20:31:38 +0000 https://newyorkinquisitor.com/news/reputed-nyc-mob-boss-pleads-guilty-in-queens-union-shakedown/

An ailing crime family capo pleaded guilty on Friday to charges related to a union shakedown in Queens and threats on a labor leader’s life.

So entrenched was Vincent Ricciardo in the labor rackets that he earned the nickname “Vinny Unions” among his mob friends, according to federal prosecutors.

Ricciardo, 77, a reputed captain in the Colombo crime family, also pleaded guilty to loansharking and money laundering charges, and was the last member of the mafia family indicted in 2021 and 2022 in connection with various offenses involving extortion, drug-trafficking and fraud.

Underboss Benjamin Castellazzo previously pleaded guilty to money laundering conspiracy, and consigliere Ralph DiMatteo pleaded guilty to racketeering involving extortion and money laundering conspiracy.

“Today, there can be no doubt that the Colombo crime family has been decapitated as a result of the guilty pleas by its leadership and other facilitators of lucrative schemes,” said U.S. Attorney Breon Peace.

Ricciardo was arrested in North Carolina in 2021 and denied bail after a wiretap of him revealed he threatened to whack a union boss, according to prosecutors.

“We will send people he don’t know right to his f—ing house,” Ricciardo said in one conversation recounted by prosecutors. In another, Ricciardo appeared to reference his failing health in the midst of a threat to kill a union boss.

“Let me tell you something,” he declared. “To prove a point? I would f—ing shoot him right in front of his wife and kids. Call the police … How long you think I’m gonna last anyway?”

Ricciardo was caught on another recorded call discussing a suspected informant inside the family.

“Oh no, he’s dead now, he’s finished,” he said. “He signed his own death certificate.”

Prosecutors said Ricciardo’s poor health did nothing to slow his role in the criminal conspiracy.

Lawyers for Ricciardo have said he has heart problems, kidney disease and severe breathing issues.

The hole left in Dominique Luzuriaga Rivera’s heart left by her husband Police Officer Jason Rivera’s murder has been filled with their newborn son — a birth some 18 months after the young cop was gunned down in Harlem, the Daily News has learned.

Luzuriaga Rivera announced the birth of her and her fallen husband’s child on her Instagram account Wednesday.

“A baby fills a place in your heart you never knew was empty,” Luzuriagia Rivera said. “Meet my little prince Wesley.”

Luzuriagia Rivera didn’t say when Wesley was born but posted a picture of an infant’s hand with the date “6/12/23″ according to WPIX 11, which first reported the birth.

She revealed she was pregnant with the late rookie cop’s child in January during a St. Patrick’s Cathedral memorial service for Rivera and his partner Wilbert Mora, marking the one-year anniversary of their deaths.

“Through sorrow and pain can also be a great birth,” she said. “I am blessed to say that Jason and I will be expecting our miracle this spring.”

The audience inside the Midtown church rose to their feet in applause after she shared the revelation.

“Although Jason won’t be here in physical form to see and experience our miracle, I know he will always be here in spirit, waiting and protecting and loving us,” she said, wiping away tears.

Rivera, 22, and Mora, 27, were gunned down while answering a domestic violence call, with the pair ambushed by an ex-convict living with his mother inside a Harlem apartment.

The slain Mora gave the gift of life to five strangers with a donation of his heart and four other organs.

At her husband’s funeral mass last year, Luzuriaga Rivera called out Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg over what critics called his lax approach to prosecuting criminals.

“The system continues to fail us,” she said from the pulpit. “We are not safe anymore, not even the members of the service. I know you are tired of these laws, especially the ones from the new…

The Suffolk County District Attorney amassed a mountain of evidence against Rex Heuermann, a Massapequa Park native, who was charged Friday with three of the murders tied to the Gilgo Beach serial killer.

Investigators have linked Heuermann to the crimes through burner cell phones, DNA evidence and eye-witnesses who put his car near the scene of the crime.

The man stabbed dead at a West Side pier in a heavily-touristed part of Manhattan has been identified, police said Friday.

Hugo Morales, 35, was killed in a confrontation just before 6 a.m. Thursday in the park at Pier 84 by 12th Ave. and W. 44th St. — between the Circle Line terminal and the Intrepid Museum.

It is not yet clear what sparked the stabbing but it appears the stabber and the victim knew each other and had been drinking, police said. A police source said the stabbing was captured on video.

The stabber fled with five other men who were on the pier, police said.

Medics rushed Morales to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital but he could not be saved.

Investigators tracked the fleeing suspect and his cohort via video surveillance cameras, zeroing in on them as they jumped the subway turnstile, according to footage released by police.

The prime suspect in the homicide is light-skinned, with a Caesar-style haircut. He was wearing a white shirt, light shorts and white sneakers, police said, and was carrying a cross-body bag and a black backpack.

Morales lived in West New York, N.J.
