“Street photography is really about photographers going out into the streets and finding something on their own that transcends time and place and says something about life, society, or philosophy,” Keith added. “Basically looking for sublime moments in daily life — people watching fireworks, people at a protest — things like that.”
According to Keith, some photographers used film cameras, and some used a digital medium. However, what they all have in common, she said, is that there is no studio, no planning, just being in the moment, on the street.
“I love promoting people and art — especially photography. It’s also great to present new ways for photographers to network and provide a venue to display their work.”
Kathie Lee, executive vice president and chief legal officer of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, pointed out that the Chamber is about celebrating makers, entrepreneurs, and small businesses — and bringing to the forefront the diversity and creativity of Brooklyn.
“Part of that is to celebrate art and artists who are their own small businesses and business owners,” Lee said. “They boast such diversity and creative energy; they are individuals that build our community and make Brooklyn so special.”
The Brooklyn Made Store represents the rich diversity of Brooklyn, as represented by products and brands that have been conceived and made here. Its mission is to identify and promote designers, makers, and entrepreneurs, mostly from communities of color, who embody the essence of what it means to be Brooklyn, as represented through their unique products.
