The perpetrator, accompanied by several male and female companions, fled north on Front Street on his scooter. A passerby called 911 and the victim was taken by ambulance to NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in Park Slope.
The victim, who spent most of the night in the ER, told the Brooklyn Eagle on Thursday that a CAT scan revealed no major internal injuries, though his face is bruised and cut, and a concussion is likely.
He said he was shocked at his attacker’s viciousness after very little provocation. “It was like he snapped. He might be a psychopath,” he said. “This guy must do this with some regularity.”
He said he was worried about the safety of the woman or women accompanying the man: “I’m worried the ladies are going to catch this.”
Police did not respond to the scene of the incident. The victim told the Eagle that he was given a police incident information slip at the hospital and was told a detective from the 84th Precinct would be in contact within three to four days.
On Wednesday, NYPD released crime statistics for the month of May. While overall index crime dropped 2.4% compared to the same month last year, other categories, including robbery (up 4.7%) and felony assault (up 7.4%) shot up in May, “largely fueled by offenders fleeing crime scenes on illegal, unregistered motorized scooters, bikes, or other vehicles,” according to the report.
