BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK โ€” Police are asking for the publicโ€™s assistance in identifying a man wanted in connection with a vicious stabbing in Brooklyn Bridge Park at roughly 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

Cops said that the 19-year-old victim was playing basketball at Pier 2 in the park with a large group of other men when a dispute broke out about the game. One of the individuals โ€œdisplayed a switchblade knife and stabbed the victim about the chest,โ€ according to an NYPD spokesperson.

The suspect fled out of the park on Furman Street in an unknown direction, cops said. The victim was transported by EMS to New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in stable condition.

The park has been the site of numerous chaotic events in the past, including an incidentย during Spring Break in April.

Deputy Inspector Adeel Rana, Commanding Officer of the 84th Precinct, has been working to increase police resources and security measures in the park during the warm summer months.

Following aย stabbing on nearby Joralemon Streetย in June, Scott Henderson, Assistant Chief at Patrol Borough Brooklyn North, announced there would be a record-breaking boost to cops in the park this summer.

โ€œFor the summer, we gave extra resources to Brooklyn Bridge Park. Normally, we place 24 cops there and a couple of supervisors. But I was able to twist some arms Downtown and we got 40 officers assigned to [the Park],โ€ he said at a meeting of the 84th Precinct Community Council.

Police are also working to increase video surveillance in the park.
