BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — Late October is the time when leaves change color across the city, and the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy celebrates the occasion with its annual “Sound & Color! Autumn in New York” fall festival

This year’s fest took place Saturday. The event brought hundreds of families to the meandering paths and grassy meadows of Pier 6, which were lined with activity stations, a pumpkin patch and old-fashioned field games like sack races. Musical performances took place on the deck overlooking the East River.

One of the highlights was a water-filled touch tank holding living marine creatures from the East River, staffed by the Conservancy’s educators. Visitors had an opportunity to gently touch blue crabs and horseshoe crabs. (Horseshoe crabs are not really crabs but are more closely related to spiders. They also have nine eyes.)

The event was presented by Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy and In The Raw, with activity stations presented by numerous partners.
