What They’re Saying: live arts in Brooklyn this week, July 2

In collaboration with KEYED UP! and Jazz Generation, Therapy Wine Bar 2.0 hosts the Organ Monk Jam every other Wednesday night, inviting musicians of all levels to join and contribute to the local music scene.

Under the leadership of Gregory Lewis, a musician known for reinterpreting Thelonious Monk’s works on the Hammond organ, the group Organ Monk has made a name for itself in the jazz and blues scene. Their latest album, Organ Monk Going Home (2023), was recognized by The New York City Jazz Record as a “Best of 2023” selection.

“Lewis’ artistry has been honed and enriched through a lifetime of commitment and performance, leading to opportunities and acclaim. Over a long-standing career, the limelight has intensified on his immense talent as the leader of his all-star Organ Monk trio, quartet, and quintet.” –  amNY

“Gregory Lewis was raised in New York City in a musical household where he was surrounded by a diverse selection of influences and genres — including funk, soul and jazz. As a young musician himself, his earliest invitations into the world of music performance came, not via jazz, but through the spiritual route — the houses of worship he grew up attending with his family.” – Annette Hinkle, 27east.com
