Two police officers in Brooklyn were shot while responding to a call for help at an apartment building on Tuesday afternoon, sources familiar with the incident confirmed.
The cops were wounded inside a second-floor apartment building at 1969 Bergen St. in Crown Heights during an apparent domestic violence call at around 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 16, according to authorities.
One officer reportedly suffered a gunshot wound to the hand while another cop was struck in the leg, sources familiar with the case said.
Both cops were swiftly whisked to Kings County Hospital, where they are expected to survive.
The suspect, a 39-year-old man, involved in the shooting has been taken into custody, authorities reported.
Police say it appears he was wounded in an exchange of gunfire with the officers, though the extent of his injuries and condition were not immediately known.Â
Police sources said the suspect became in an physical struggle with one of the officers, during which the gun went off. WABC-TV reported that one of the officers returned fire, striking the perpetrator.
Police are asking the public to remain clear of the area as the investigation unfolds.
