Police are searching for two men who allegedly shot a 35-year-old man in Brownsville on Monday night, according to the NYPD.
Officers responded to the scene at 369 Legion St. just after 8 p.m., police said. The victim was shot once in the left leg on the second floor of the apartment building. Paramedics transported him to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center in stable condition.
The two perps, whose identities are not known, fled on foot up 98th Street toward Empire Boulevard. No arrests have been made, and an investigation is ongoing as of Tuesday morning. Police said both suspects were men in their 30s — one was described as wearing a brown jacket, and the other a purple hooded sweatshirt.
There have been 37 shooting incidents in the 73rd Precinct, which includes parts of Brownsville, so far this year, according to police data — down 35% from the same period of time last year, when 57 incidents had been reported. Most major crimes, including homicide and felony assault, are also down — though the nabe has seen some violent crime in recent months. A 25-year-old man was shot in the arm outside Howard Houses earlier this month, and three teens were stabbed outside Brownsville Academy High School last month.
