A cyclist died Monday afternoon after sustaining injuries while riding an e-bike in Sunset Park, according to police.
At approximately 4:09 p.m. on March 11, officers responded to a 911 call about a bicyclist who had apparently lost control of his e-bicycle near the intersection of 53rd Street and Sixth Avenue, within the confines of the 72nd Precinct.
The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad subsequently determined that the cyclist — identified as 67-year-old Jundi Hu of Bay Ridge — had been traveling northbound on Sixth Avenue before losing control of the e-bike’s pedals. He sustained severe injuries after he was thrown to the pavement, cops said.
Paramedics rushed Hu to nearby NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation remains ongoing and is being carried out by the Collision Investigation Squad. According to New York City’s Vision Zero traffic injury and fatality tracker, the intersection where Hu’s accident occurred has not previously seen any traffic-related injuries or deaths.
