Firefighters dealt with frozen hydrants while battling a third floor apartment fire at 669 East 5th Street.

Firefighters battled an apartment fire in Brooklyn in frigid temperatures on Wednesday night.Â
At just after 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 17, FDNY units arrived at 669 East 5th St. to find a fire in a third-floor apartment. Firefighters briefly struggled to get water on the fire as two hydrants were frozen near the fire building.
FDNY personnel had to use booster tank water from Engine Company 250 to knock down the main body of the fire. Firefighters rescued one person from the apartment and they were taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation.
The fire was placed under control at 8:30 p.m. The FDNY Fire Marshal’s Office will determine the cause and origin of the incident.Â
