Firefighters take on early two-alarm blaze at Brooklyn home

Firefighters took on a two-alarm fire that broke out in Brooklyn on Saturday morning.

At just after 7:45 a.m. on March 23, FDNY units responded to the fire at 693 Monroe St. in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Units were met by heavy fire and smoke on the first and second floors of a three-story brownstone.

Fire Department personnel consisting of just over a hundred members used four hose lines to knock down the main body of fire. A firefighter fell through the floor but was quickly removed by interior units. Residents of the building and neighboring buildings were seen scrambling with a toddler and several dogs from the chaotic scene.

Searches throughout the building resulted in minor injuries. Units were forced to cut several ventilation holes in the roof to release heavy and trapped gas. 

The fire was placed under control at 9:15 a.m. The fire is under investigation by the FDNY Fire Marshals Office, who will determine the cause and origin of the fire.
