A man was fatally shot in the head in the stairwell of a Brooklyn apartment building Monday night, police said.
According to authorities, officers responded to a 911 call of a man shot inside 170 New York Avenue, in Crown Heights, at around 11 p.m. on Oct. 23. When they arrived, cops found a 32-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds to the body and head.
EMS rushed the victim to NYC Health and Hospitals/Kings County, where he was pronounced dead. His identity is being withheld by police pending family notification.
As of Tuesday morning, there are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.
Per Police Department data, crime is largely down in Brooklyn’s 77th Precinct, where Monday night’s shooting occurred. There were 18 reported shootings in the area this year as of Oct. 15 (when the most recent data is available), down almost 36% from the 28 reported during the same time last year.
Reports of murder, rape, robbery, burglary and grand larceny are also down in the precinct, which patrols Crown Heights and a portion of Prospect Park.
The scene of Monday night’s shooting made headlines earlier this year when tenants of the 36-unit building organized a rent strike, demanding basic fixes to their building following a basement fire.
