Violence broke out inside an East Flatbush church building on Friday afternoon when one man stabbed another.
According to a police spokesperson, the pair – neither of whom have been identified — were tussling inside the under-construction Rehoboth Open Bible Church at 888 East 56th St. at around 2 p.m. when one slashed the other in the face with a sharp object.
The perp, who was last seen wearing a black jacket, fled the scene on foot heading toward Glenwood Road, per the NYPD. The victim was taken to Brookdale University Medical Hospital by ambulance, where he was in stable condition on Friday.
An NYPD investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made, cops said.
It was not immediately clear whether the church building was open to the public at the time of the shooting — construction fences surround the building, and the Rehoboth Open Bible Church website, which has a location nearby on Avenue D, says the East 56th Street location is “opening soon.” Brooklyn Paper was not immediately able to reach the church for comment.
On the scene, locals said the church building had been under renovation for years, and that it was believed to have been locked up at the time of the stabbing.
In the 63rd Precinct, where the stabbing occurred, 23 assaults have been reported so far this year, per NYPD crime stats — the same number that had been reported in the precinct as of this time last year; though assaults in the area are down more than 20% compared to 2022.
