Cops seek suspect who struck man with glass bottle in Lower Manhattan

The suspect police say hit a man in the head with a glass bottle, unprovoked, on a Lower Manhattan street early Sunday.

Cops are looking for the man they say smashed a stranger in the head with a glass bottle in Lower Manhattan over the weekend.

According to authorities, a 42-year-old man was in the vicinity of Lafayette Street and Prince Street at around 3:15 a.m. on Sunday when he was approached by a stranger. That stranger then struck the man in the head with a glass bottle multiple times, police said.

Police say the incident was entirely unprovoked.

The suspect โ€” seen on security camera footage wearing what appear to be sweatpants with a white t-shirt wrapped around his neck โ€” fled on food westbound on Prince Street.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.

Reports of felony assaults are up slightly in Manhattanโ€™s 5th Precinct, where the incident occurred, according to Police Department data. As of Feb. 19, when the most recent data is available, there were 22 reported felony assaults year-to-date in the precinct, which serves the southeastern edge of Manhattan โ€” up from 20 in the same time frame last year.
